About Us

Martin Luther Lutheran Church, Giddings, Texas
Martin Luther Lutheran Church is a vibrant Lutheran congregation affiliated with Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ (LCMC) since 2010. It is located in the heart of Giddings, Texas at 573 North Main Street. The church serves as a spiritual home for approximately 250 members with 130 average Sunday attendance. We emphasize love of God and love of our church family and our neighbors. Our community outreach includes our Day School, Sunday School, in house children’s and youth programs, Women of the Word, Men in Mission and other faith-centered activities. Beyond us, we support and encourage ministries that share our common values and opportunities for ministry involvement through the local Ministerial Alliance. We are currently led by Interim Pastor John Waak.
Church History
Founded in 1895 by Pastor Johannes Mgebroff, a Lutheran missionary who settled in Giddings after immigrating from Germany, Martin Luther Lutheran Church has deep roots in the region's German heritage. The church celebrated its centennial in 1994, and now marks nearly 132 years of continuous ministry.
Our sanctuary features an 1887 Carl Barckhoff organ. It is a centerpiece of worship services. We emphasize our love of music, both traditional and contemporary and we have an excellent choir.
Vision Statement
Martin Luther Lutheran Church has a bold two-pronged history of love of God, and love of neighbor. Love of God has been borne witness to in worship services supported with strong music programs. Love of neighbor includes love for our church family, and extends to the community of Giddings itself. Day school, Sunday school, in-house children’s and youth programs all intend to convey the love of Christ to our large community. Beyond us, we support and encourage ministries that share our common values and opportunities for ministry involvement.
In recent years, however, as is common to churches in the United States, a slow demoralization and atrophy has undermined our mission. Many of our previous programs and ministries had ended.
The mission, however, has not ended. A recent revival has resurrected several ministries, and that success has inspired us to reclaim the ancient values, and again undertake mission and ministry to both the congregation and community.
Our vision is to:
• Love the Lord with all our powers in excellent worship.
• Make disciples of all people in Giddings, Lee County, and beyond, and especially to our
children, youth, and families.
• Provide strategic and dynamic programming that supports spiritual growth, and fervent
love for all ages.
Toward the accomplishment of this vision we see:
• Basic and simple programming for Sunday worship, and mid-week small groups and
activities for fellowship and growth as disciples.
• Staffing to recruit, train and support a core volunteer staff, as needed.
• Children, Youth and Family
• Sr. Pastor
• Support staff (secretary, custodial, etc.)
• Appropriate committees to help the paid staff in their work to meet the above vision.
• Assess and develop the facilities to meet the needs of real, and anticipated, growth.
• Assess and develop the finances needed to support the mission.
